once again. Corsica saw the arrival of the French military governor the count Marbeuf. He re-established order and installed a policy of agricultural development (improved the pork in goat race, implanted the mulberry tree and the cotton plant) disarmed the population and gave them a civil state and had them participate in the administration of the country.

A land plan was established which contained very precise information concerning the economic situation of the island. The population increased by 30% in 20 years. Roads where built.

In 1789 a statutory order promulgate that Corsica belong to the French Empire, and its inhabitants were ruled by the same constitution as other French. But this text didn’t consolidate the agreement with France anyway.

Pasquale Paoli, after the national assembly in Paris issued of the revolution it welcomed returns to Corsica at the demand of the population. It made Corsica enter in separation and again called Great Britain to help.

In 1794 the French left Corsica. The island became British. The 400 deputies met at Corte the 10th of June claiming Pasquale Paoli the Father of the Republic. But he was quickly deceived by Great Britain which he considered as a model of liberalism. Actually the latest followed in Corsica and economic strategic plan which made little interest in the island population. Defeated Paoli was called back to London where he died several years later.

The Anglo–Corsican Kingdom didn’t last long, the French returned in October1786 following the signature of the Paris treaty. From 1770-90 Marbeuf returned chief Commander of the army of the French King. He had the previous followers of Pasquale Paoli punished, some had their throats slit, others exiled to prisons in Toulon. He gave titles to the hierarchy and distributed grants. He died in Bastia the 20th of September 1786. Unknown people made his coffin disappear and destroyed his castle.
