The salt always played an important role in the economy of Porto-Vecchio. Indeed, one says collectively about Porto-Vecchio that it is above all the Town of the Salt, because of the presence of numerous salt marshes in sea border.
Especially, the city is a sea resort in full expansion but already very widely appreciated by tourists' quantity avid to discover magnificent landscapes and mainly incredible beaches of fine sand.
Porto-Vecchio is the third city of Corsica, with its Figari's airport, its numerous businesses and its numerous tourist infrastructures. The ports of sailing and business allow it some more to attract lover of beaches among the most beautiful of Corsica, for example those famous and very frequented beaches : Palombaggia, Pinarellu either Santa Giulia.
Finally, Porto-Vecchio has probably its name of "old port of "portus Syracusanus" from the Roman time (cf the green guide of Corsica).
